Our One Day beekeeping course will be run at the Hanging Wood Apiary and Beekeeping Centre in Woldingham, Surrey. The course provides all the essential skills needed to get starting in beekeeping and includes a combination of hands on experience, practical exercises and theory and expert guidance. The course is designed to get you started in beekeeping. You will learn all about the honey bee, how to choose your hive and equipment, how and where to set up your apiary, how to manage your bees, a brief introduction to pests and diseases and how and when to extract the honey. In the afternoon you will get a chance to open a real hive, handle frames and inspect brood and stores and if we are lucky you might spot the queen or see a newly emerging bee.
Your instructor is Lawrence Homewood who has over 40 years experience keeping bees.The morning will be packed with theory, practical exercises and quizzes. During the afternoon you will learn about planning your beekeeping year, how to suit up safely, inspect a real working beehive and extract the honey.

Safety
Beesuits and gloves will be provided but please bring clean wellington boots.
Please do not attend the course if you have an allergy to bee stings.
